where one or both are artists - tattoo artists are not included in this category unless one of the main characters is a traditional artist as well
Summary: Silence used to be peaceful for Bucky. These days it makes him feel like he's waiting for something, like he's listening for the warning sounds of predators approaching. Now silence means he's waiting for the other shoe to drop. He lives in a beautiful apartment with his husband-to-be and tells himself that everything is just fine. He doesn't sleep, he's scared of putting a foot wrong in case Brock snaps again, and he's desperately lonely, but he has everything he ever wants and that should be enough. It's not like he can complain about being taken care of, even if parts of it aren't exactly his choice. Running into his childhood friend (literally) just might change everything. 'Just fine' doesn't seem like enough once Steve walks back into his life. The problem is, Bucky's been stuck in his cage for so long that he's not sure he can leave it on his own.
Summary: Going through a divorce from Peggy, artist Steve Rogers moves into the seaside house inherited from his grandmother where he used to spend summers as a teenager. His former best friend Bucky Barnes has the same idea. Now they're awkwardly co-habiting while each tries to get over their recent break-up and their own history with each other.
Summary: Bucky Barnes has one rule: to never get involved with one of his artists. But one night when he goes to check in on a commission, he’s faced with a desperate Steve Rogers in heat. In his underwear. How is he supposed to resist?
Summary: Living with an alpha was usually … difficult. The last alpha he’d shared a building with, some asshole whose name Steve had forgotten almost immediately, had been pushy – scenting the entire building, walking up and down the hallway of Steve’s floor on regular days, let alone when Steve was in heat. After a week of the guy literally scratching at his door, Steve had packed up and left, and the landlady hadn’t blamed him – had even given him back his bond, though she had been entitled to keep it given the circumstances. The worst part had been when they had crossed paths as Steve had been preparing to move out. The alpha had leered at Steve, catcalled and coaxed, puffed up and made his scent that much more potent. Convinced for some reason that Steve would mate him just because of his designation. Fat chance. Steve had held his breath the last time they had been face to face, refused to look at him, thrown the guy’s hand off when he’d tried to stop Steve from leaving. Bucky though? Perfect. Fucking. Gentleman. And it drove Steve nuts.
Summary: Bucky is a disabled veteran having difficulty adjusting to civilian life. Steve is the artist the VA has hired to paint a mural for the clinic. Last time they saw each other, the cops were dragging them away from the only stable home they’d ever known.
Summary: Steve Rogers lives a quiet, steady life, until his next door neighbour moves in and starts having incredibly energetic sex every night. All Steve wants is for him to move his bed away from the wall so the damn headboard doesn't knock a hole through his wall.
Summary: Steve is a shy comic book artist and meets his new neighbour, Bucky Barnes. In which there are awkward longings, meddling best friends, comic conventions, heartache, lemons, video games, dorkiness, dancing and two cute boys.
Summary: The world was full of things no one could have expected. Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes never expected to fall from a train into decades of torture and killing. HYDRA never expected their perfect Winter Soldier's programming to shatter. And Bucky, who'd once been the Winter Soldier, who was now an auxiliary to the Avengers, never expected to look down from a rooftop in New York City, where he was keeping watch over the world's most ineffectual aspirant supervillains, and see a tiny ball of angry sunshine. Fierce and fearless, he loosed feelings in Bucky that he'd thought were gone forever. Bucky was determined to see him again. The better thing would have been to introduce himself. Not to stealthily follow him as he leapt across the rooftops, strong and agile, feet touching down like he was doing gravity a favour. The world may have been full of things no one could have expected, but Bucky probably shouldn't have been surprised when his tiny ball of fierce, angry sunshine dumped him on his ass.
Summary: Natasha places a well-manicured hand on Sam’s thigh as she explains, “Bucky has a type and they’re terrible men.” Bucky makes a face. “No, Bucky has a type and it’s older blond men.” “Who are all terrible,” Natasha adds. Bucky meets one more older blond man after swearing off of them forever. This one may be special.
Summary: Bucky is a professional cellist and Steve is an artist passing through town who has never kissed a boy, but is pretty sure he wants to. They can definitely enjoy a no-strings attached weekend of casual sex with no one catching feelings, right? Right??? May include: Gratuitous karaoke, gratuitous mention of classical music pieces, gratuitous mention of Bucky Barnes swimming in a pool, and an entirely appropriate level of mention of Alexander Pierce being a shitty ex. Definitely includes Mama Barnes acting as dues ex machina which frankly nearly every offering of the MCU could be greatly improved by. Happy ending, a bit of angst in the middle (maybe more than a bit), mentions of the death of close family members, and past crappy relationships, sad complicated feelings about divorce. A lot of sexy times, especially near the beginning, phew. Verbal consent happens regularly re: sexy times. Really there are a lot of jokes, and it's a hopeful fic I think. We're gonna be ok, y'all.
Summary: After a disastrous break up with Brock, Steve is looking to drown his feelings at a bar. Instead, he finds a rakish stranger and decides to take him home. It’s a no-strings-attached, one-night stand, a way to forget all the shitty things Brock made him feel. The stranger is leaving the country anyway, so Steve may as well take advantage of the opportunity for anonymous rebound sex. Steve’ll never see him again, right? A lot can change in three years.
Summary: ‘Dear Winter, It feels odd to me to address you as such, you who are supposed to be my companion, while knowing that this is not your true name. It feels disingenuous on my part, however, being the pawn in whatever game Miss Romanova has concocted with Mr Barton, I am compelled to adhere to these rules, such as they are, even if I do not understand their purpose. || Steve Rogers cannot truly be called a struggling artist not when he has the patronage of the distinguished Miss Natalia Romanova at his back, but that doesn't mean he isn't struggling. On the hunt to secure a gallery show by any means necessary, Steve finds himself caught up in schemes beyond his control. The mob has threatened his mother and Miss Romanova has set him up with an anonymous pen pal of all things. Steve cannot afford to be distracted. But when the ever-irritating James Buchanan Barnes works his way into Steve's life and just won't leave? He can't help himself. Could there be more? Or is it only gilded?
Summary: Almost fifteen years ago, young teen Bucky Barnes was abducted from his own neighborhood in broad daylight. Now he's back home. But after the media and mayhem of Bucky’s return dies down, all that's left to do is for Bucky to try to recover himself again. He thought he was doing fine till the day he met Steve Rogers on a beach. Steve Rogers was terrifying.
Summary: Steve Rogers is a seasoned activist and not at all afraid to get arrested while protesting the building of a pipeline. HOWEVER he is TERRIFIED when he realizes he’ll be chained to the same backhoe as Bucky “very handsome southern boy who also plays guitar and struts like a panther in his very tight, worn thin blue jeans” Barnes. Our brave, tiny Steve will find out once and for all: Can you catch on fire from blushing over your crush? May Contain: Extended descriptions of how to get arrested while chained to a backhoe, copious amounts of sisters, Appalachian accents, cheerful silliness interspersed with tragic background realness. Pining with a happy ending. Chicken related controversy. Tragic background realness mainly consists of parents passing away, because who doesn’t love adult orphans. Discussion of funerals. Very brief homophobic interaction in chapter 18 (marked in the chapter intro notes). There is no violence, but there are a few moments where you might think there might be violence. Overall this is a romance not a gritty, hard hitting documentary.
Summary: After finding a magazine on the subway that says that omegas who have more than 20 sexual partners have a 4% chance of getting married, Bucky becomes determined to find out if one of his exes was secretly The One. There's definitely, absolutely zero chance he'll fall in love with the hot alpha who lives across the hall. A Marvel/What's Your Number AU.
Summary: "Mm, see, but you don't actually know that," James says, shaking his head, but looking amused. "Not until you taste this. You might hate it." "I've been your audience, though. I've been right here watching you make all that," Steve protests, grinning. "I've seen your cooking focus and how you use your hands and everything. There's no way this won't be amazing." There's a pause after Steve's words. It's probably a very brief and barely noticeable pause, but it feels long and mortifying to Steve as he plays his own last few sentences back in his head. "Glad you think I'm good with hands," James eventually says, ending Steve's misery, but making him flush even redder. (Or: Natasha hires a private chef to cook Steve's birthday dinner. Steve's not too sure about the idea of a total stranger in his apartment on his birthday, but Chef James is incredibly attractive and very charming. He also seems oddly familiar. That might just be because Steve has met him before.)
Summary: Steve Rogers gets into more trouble than the average human being. One night, Steve is saved by a man in black tactical gear and a mask covering the lower half of his face, thus begins Steve's obsession with drawing the man and his beautiful but haunted eyes. When the man walks into Steve's design office to have a new logo designed, Steve is certain the man is there to kill him. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Summary: “You have never once been careful in your entire life.” Bucky huffs out a laugh. He looks away. “Maybe I’m offended you didn’t think to ask me.” He says it like a joke, but he can’t bring himself to laugh again. “Bucky,” Steve says, scandalized. “You’re my friend. I’m not gonna use you to experiment sexually.”
Summary: “How’s the cabin without all of us crammed in there,” Steve asked the person. He paused for a moment then laughed again. “Yeah, I bet Pepper is happy, too. I know long it’s been since you two—” Steve jumped when he turned and saw Bucky standing in the doorway. He would have been happy to keep listening to Steve speak softly into his phone if it meant he could stare at his back. Steve jumped again when the person on the phone acknowledged him. “I’m fine, Tony. Yeah, no, yeah. I just got startled by something. No, he’s not trying to murder me. I’ll talk to you later.”
Summary: A baker who does pottery. A businessman who creates art. Bucky & Steve discover each other on TikTok, but when they meet in real life Steve forgets that Bucky has no idea what he looks like. Can they get over this case of mistaken identity and continue the spark they have online?
Summary: When Steve loses his mother, he doesn’t think he can be more heartbroken, but then he sees his boyfriend kissing another man just two weeks after Sarah’s death. Devastated and furious, Steve blocks Bucky’s number, deletes his social media accounts, and flees to Paris to study art the way he’s always wanted. As a summer rainstorm erupts, Steve seeks shelter under an awning where he comes face to face with the love of his life.
Summary: Fifteen years ago, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes had been two teenagers in love, spending sweltering summers in Eagle Inlet, Steve's sleepy lakeside hometown way up in the Adirondacks. Sure, Bucky's rich family only came up in summertime, but they were off to college soon and they'd be together forever, right? Not quite. These days, Bucky's back in town for the summer and it turns out, some hurts—and firsts—are hard to get over. ... There was something venomous and fiery chasing itself through Steve’s veins, choking the life out of his common sense. He put a hand on Bucky’s waist, small and tight, shifting with Bucky’s quick breathing and he squeezed, trying to ground himself. It didn’t work. There was hardly any space left between them. Bucky’s hair brushed the tip of his nose. It was citrus and sweat and like a gut punch of memory. “We could see if I’m any better now,” Steve said. “I’ve had a little more practice since then.”
